Privacy and local data
How readbooks.in handles text, PDF and EPUB files, browser storage, reading history, backups and website requests.

Your text and files
Pasted text, PDFs, images and EPUB files are processed in your browser. readbooks.in has no document-upload endpoint. Extraction does not send the contents to an AI service. The site requests application code, fonts, extraction engines, OCR language models and any shelf book you choose from its host.
What is saved locally
- Saved library: explicitly saved text, original extraction, corrections, reading position, elapsed time and bookmarks are stored in IndexedDB in this browser.
- Reading history: timed sessions and submitted practice results are stored locally. Unsaved text, correction drafts and unsubmitted answers can be lost when the tab closes or reloads.
- Preferences: theme, text size, default pace, starting mode and single-key shortcuts use localStorage.
- Optional offline copy: a service worker caches public app files so you can reopen saved readings without a connection. Personal readings remain in the library database.
These records belong to this browser and this site origin. They do not automatically move between devices, profiles or domains. A shared browser profile can expose your saved readings to other people using it.
Back up and delete data
Use backup & restore to download committed library or history records. Backups contain reading text and can be sensitive; store and share them accordingly. They do not contain your original file bytes, passwords or preferences.
Remove a saved reading from Library, remove or clear sessions from Statistics, and remove the optional app copy from Offline. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes the remaining local records and preferences. Browser cleanup, private-browsing rules or storage limits can also remove data, so keep your own backup.
Website requests and hosting
Loading a website exposes network information such as your IP address, requested URL and browser information to its hosting provider. The public website is hosted by Cloudflare. This is separate from processing your reading file locally. Cloudflare describes its processing in its privacy policy.
Do not put personal text or passwords in the address bar. readbooks.in’s find queries and pasted reading text are not added to its URLs. Following an external source link is a request to that separate website, whose privacy practices apply there.
Advertising and analytics
This build does not load AdSense, Google Analytics or a marketing tracker. Reading Statistics is local app history. If advertising is enabled in a later release, this notice will identify the providers, purposes and available choices before that change. There is no advertising consent banner in this ad-free build.
