The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted four drones over Riyadh, the Eastern Province and southern areas on 17 October, according to an AFP report published the following day. Iran denied Saudi accusations that it was encouraging the Houthis’ escalation.
In separate Sunday statements reported by Gulf News, the coalition said it destroyed drones in the Eastern and Riyadh regions and two ballistic missiles heading toward Khamis Mushait. These were additional dated announcements, not a single verified combined tally.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for a political process and repeated an offer to mediate. The interception accounts remain attributed to the coalition; diplomatic proposals do not establish that a ceasefire or mediation agreement has been reached.
