India’s Ministry of External Affairs criticised the US action affecting employer-sponsored permanent-residency applications on 9 October. It also objected to Vice President JD Vance’s description of foreign professionals, arguing that the language ignored Indian workers’ contribution to the American economy.
The ministry highlighted their role in innovation, research, productivity and employment, and said movement of skilled talent benefits both countries. Its response followed the announced suspension of eight technology employers from the PERM labour-certification programme.
This is a report of India’s diplomatic reaction, not a new immigration order. PERM processing is one stage in many employer-sponsored green-card cases. The reported suspension should not be confused with a blanket cancellation of Indians’ existing green cards or treated as a finding about every individual visa holder.
