A Reuters report published overnight on 10 October described a growing dispute over Starlink’s delayed commercial launch in India. Elon Musk accused Mukesh Ambani of using influence to obstruct competition. Reuters reported that he supplied no evidence for the allegation and that Reliance Jio did not respond to a request for comment.
Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia rejected the suggestion that India permits monopolies. The government said the approval process was not discriminatory and that licensed satellite operators were at broadly similar regulatory stages.
The report distinguished Starlink’s existing licence from the security compliance and spectrum assignment still needed for commercial service. The dispute therefore does not amount to an announcement that customers can already use a newly launched Indian service. The statements covered in this overnight report were made on 9 October.
