Pune Municipal Corporation data cited by the Indian Express on 18 October recorded 2,009 suspected dengue cases this year. Around 66% were reported in August, September and the part of October covered by the data.
The report said these cases had tested positive in NS1 antigen screening. Civic officials also reported finding 2,651 mosquito-breeding sites by 14 October and inspecting more than 13 lakh public and private properties as part of prevention work.
Officials linked the response to reducing stagnant water around homes, workplaces and construction sites. The figures are a municipal surveillance snapshot, not a count of new infections on 18 October alone. October’s partial total should not be compared as though the month were complete.
