A truck struck pilgrims and roadside stalls near the Sheetla Mata temple in Gwalior around 1:30 am on 18 October. The Times of India’s afternoon report put the death toll at at least 15 and said the driver and vehicle owner had been arrested.
The truck also hit the temple entrance, bringing down part of a wall. Residents, devotees and police helped rescue people, while injured victims were taken for treatment. The report identified 26 injured people, including two police personnel.
Earlier morning accounts carried lower death tolls and different injury totals. This brief uses the later 1:05 pm report; the sequence of events and responsibility remain subject to investigation.
