The Election Commission issued directions on 9 October limiting the number of Form 7 applications an individual elector can submit. The form is used to raise objections to entries on electoral rolls. Reports said the move followed concerns about unsupported bulk objections.
The reported limit is ten applications during the entire claims-and-objections period of a revision, and five per month during continuous updating of the rolls. These are separate limits for different stages, rather than a single daily allowance.
Officials are also required to examine objections and give the person whose entry is challenged an opportunity to be heard before an order. The direction concerns the handling of applications; it does not itself cancel a voter’s registration or announce the withdrawal of the wider revision exercise.
