Bengaluru police detained around 50 student activists and other protesters near Town Hall on 17 October, The News Minute reported the following day. The gathering opposed the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and demanded the election chief’s resignation.
The report said those taken to the City Armed Reserve grounds were subsequently released. Police had rejected permission for Town Hall, citing High Court guidelines that designated Freedom Park for demonstrations subject to permission.
Organisers criticised the police action and questioned the state government’s stated support for peaceful protest. The dispute concerns both electoral-roll revision and restrictions on the demonstration’s location; detention alone does not establish criminal guilt.
