President Donald Trump’s pause on new Russia-related sanctions and tariffs eased a potential additional duty threat facing India over Russian oil purchases, the Indian Express reported on 18 October. The decision followed a US agreement concerning Russian diesel supplies.
The report cited Kpler data showing Indian imports of Russian crude at 1.9 million barrels a day in September, more than 35% of the country’s oil imports. That dependence makes changes in sanctions policy economically significant for Indian refiners.
Analysts discussed the possibility of improved conditions for India–US trade negotiations. That remains an assessment, not confirmation of a signed trade agreement or the removal of every existing tariff. Separate European restrictions also remain a concern in the report.
